Langley Hall Arts Academy

Modern Foreign Languages & Latin

At LHAA, we are passionate about the benefits that learning a language can bring and believe in languages as a skill for life and as something students should enjoy and find rewarding. In today’s increasingly interconnected and interdependent world, proficiency in other languages is a vital skill that offers an opportunity to engage with the world in a more immediate and meaningful way—whether in your local area or thousands of miles away—while better preparing our students to compete and succeed in the global economy. It helps our students to see life beyond their local area.

At KS3, our students start will study French, Spanish, Italian and Latin. Our aim is to develop communicative competence in LHAA students, engaging them in pragmatic, functional use whilst gaining an understanding and appreciation of different cultures in Spain, France and the Spanish- and French-speaking world. The topics also feed into the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), widely accepted as the European standard for grading an individual’s language proficiency.

At KS4, we then develop and apply these skills to prepare for success at GCSE in either
French or Spanish.
In Years 9, 10 and 11, LHAA students study all of the following themes on which the assessments are based.
