Computing

At LHAA, we recognise the vital role of computing has in allowing curiosity, creativity and self –expression to develop alongside resilience, confidence and critical thinking skills. Indeed, each pupil will have their own laptop in addition to having access to a wide range of technology resources owned by LHAA. Computing skills are a vital component to any student’s future success when they leave LHAA. Our curriculum is designed to give all students the breadth of skills required to continue their journey in computing or other sectors of employment successfully. There is a common misconception that if a student can use a device (smartphone, tablet) to access social media services or play games; then they must be a confident digital technology user. At LHAA, we know there are so many more skills required for students to be confident users of digital technology. We strive to ensure students can control their devices and the software included rather than be controlled by pre-set decision and options.

This means ensuring that all students leave the school being able to:

  • Use office productivity software, file management systems and communication system confidently.
  • Keep safe when using technology, particularly when online, and understand the dangers of putting too much trust in digital systems.
  • Use computation thinking skills to solve or understand real world problems.
  • Create digital resources which bring together a range of software skills.

Computing skills give students from all backgrounds and abilities the ability to improve their progress in a wide range of subjects and open up future opportunities outside of school as well.
