Langley Hall Arts Academy

Curriculum

Our curriculum is largely based upon the requirements of the National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4, but,  features many innovative and unique characteristics.

All pupils will study for and sit GCSE Music at the end of year 8. As entry criteria to the school requires pupils to have reached grade 3 in at least one musical instrument, as judged by the ABRSM exams, this is a very achievable goal.

All pupils will then study A-Level Music in years 9, 10 and 11 alongside 9 other GCSE subjects. In total, pupils will potentially leave the school with 10 GCSE subjects ranging from grades 4-9 and one A-Level subject.

LHAA offers an innovative academic and expressive arts curriculum.  At the heart of this curriculum is an inclusive ethos of challenge and support in which all students will find belonging and success.  Students of the Academy will have an unrivalled experience of intellectual, emotional and spiritual enrichment.  The Academy ethos is one of inclusion for all students of all backgrounds, founded on the broad Christian values of tolerance, charity and service. The acronym WAVE, “We’re All Valued Equally”  underpins all of our planning and curriculum delivery.

LHAA aims to deliver the highest possible standards in educating the whole child. The curriculum will be broad and balanced; with a particular focus on the expressive curricula and academic English Baccalaureate (Ebacc) curricula.  The Academy will develop informed beliefs in its students and encourage self-reflection to provide a moral framework that helps all students to distinguish right from wrong.  Through the curriculum and the ethos of the Academy, students will be increasingly aware of and respect others’ traditions and cultures.  Students learn in a safe educational environment which promotes healthy living, contributes to their development and helps them to become responsible citizens who will make a positive contribution to society.

The Academy offers a good range of mandatory academic subjects to ensure that all students, irrespective of gender or ability, will have the opportunity to establish firm academic and creative arts foundations.
